Rescuing Cats, Restoring Hope Every Day

Introducing Kat’s Kingdom – A Tiny Rescue with a Big Heart in Lawrence County, Alabama ✨ For the last 3 years, my husband and I have been quietly rescuing dumped and abandoned cats on our little 2‑acre place in rural Lawrence County. One by one, hungry, scared cats and kittens started wandering up out of the woods and fields. We didn’t go looking for them. They just showed up here – and we couldn’t turn them away. Today, we are caring for 26 rescued cats – mamas, males, and their kittens – all safe here at Kat’s Kingdom. At first we thought we were just helping a couple of cats: • Our first rescue, an orphaned kitten, became our pet. • Our second, we adopted from a rescue for $50 with everything already done. But after that, they just kept coming. Every other cat here simply wandered up to our property, hungry and alone. I’ve fed them, cared for them, and slowly tamed them – most of them trust only me. Up to now, we have done this completely on our own: • We’ve paid full price to spay/neuter and vet 18 of these cats so far. • A female spay with rabies, flea treatment, dewormer, and first shots has cost about $260 each. • A male neuter with basic vetting has cost about $169–$200 each. • We’ve covered food, litter, and all other vet expenses out of pocket. At those prices, just the 18 surgeries we’ve already done have cost thousands of dollars, one paycheck and one cat at a time. Over time, we realized this wasn’t just “helping a few strays” anymore – it had become a real rescue. That’s why we took the next step: Kat’s Kingdom is now officially incorporated as a nonprofit in Alabama, we have our EIN, and as of last week we’ve applied for 501(c)(3) tax‑exempt status with the IRS. (We are currently 501(c)(3)–pending and will update everyone as soon as we’re approved.) 💙 Our Immediate Goal Before we can help many more cats in our area, we need to stabilize and fully vet the 26 we already have. Our first goal as a new nonprofit is to: • Spay/neuter the remaining cats who are not fixed yet • Get everyone up to date on core vaccines and basic preventative care • Keep our total number of cats safe and manageable so no one goes without what they need These 26 cats are our cat family, and their wellbeing comes first. In the future, as everyone is fixed, healthy, and settled, a few especially friendly cats or kittens may be available for adoption to very special homes. Any adoption will be carefully chosen, based on what’s truly best for that cat.
